Frame – Frame Cab Mount Repair
Even though I sourced a “new to me” 78 F250 frame the cab mounts were rusted through (very common). I used some 1/4″ steel I had lying around and cut out pieces to weld them in. I didn’t bother with trying to weld in large washers flush or anything, I wanted it to be strong first and foremost. If the bed ends up not lining up by a 1/4″ then I’ll shim the bed mounts with some rubber. Once I welded in the steel pieces we had to drill the center hole for the cab mount. My Dad had just gotten an old used electromagnetic drill that was perfect for the job. It’s pretty sick, stand it in place where you need to drill, flip the switch and it magnetizes and sticks in place, drill away! Check the pics below to see the process.
