CAB REPAIR – rocker panel repair cont.
Following up the floor pan replacement the next step was to work outward from the inner rocker panels. Again, pretty much the whole LMC cab body panel page was ordered. We started first by just holding pieces up and figuring out where they need to go and how much we needed to take off of the cab vs. the piece. Once we had it figured out we began to cut out all the sections that needed to be replaced.
I tacked everything in place first before any finish welding as we wanted to test fit the door prior to welding everything up solid. Some of the pieces didn’t fit exactly together so some cutting of extra sheet metal was necessary to fill in those gaps. We generally sprayed the back of things with weld through primer where we could. The newer sheet metal is a little thinner compared to the ’70s sheet metal (go figure) so it became a battle to avoid burn through (the grinder will be my friend in this case as I had to use quite a bit of weld in some places).
